Hello and happy Monday! Are you ready to get these sleeves installed? Tomorrow, all we have left is the back tabs, buttonholes and hardware. We are SO CLOSE! Let’s get started.
Pulling the thread tails from the basting stitches, gather the sleeve cap slightly.
Turn the assembled jacket wrong side out. Turn the sleeve right side out and place it inside of the jacket.
Align:
- Underarm seams,
- Front sleeve notch with front yoke seam,
- shoulder notches,
- back sleeve seam with back yoke seam*.
*Match these at the seam lines, not the edge of the seam allowances. This will ensure that the seams line up after being sewn together (see photo below).
Loosen or tighten the gathers as needed to match these points, then pin in place and sew. Remove any visible basting stitches.
Press the seam allowances toward the bodice, then finish and topstitch.
NOTE: I recommend sewing a mock flat fell seam here.
You have installed one sleeve! Repeat for opposite sleeve, and I’ll see you tomorrow to finish everything up!
