Tighter. Tighter. Tighter.
That’s the writing trend as of now. Kind of like Sullivan, Higdon & Sink’s Web site. Brilliantly written and designed, their voice is blunt, honest and intelligent with a touch of sarcasm. Everything–from the design to the body copy and headlines–are centered around one idea: they hate sheep. Not literal sheep, but the “sheep” of marketing–those who follow instead of lead. So, this is a presentation of what they aren’t. They aren’t followers and they dreamed up an awesomely unique way to tell us so. I love it.
Then there are companies who get us to visit their Web site by offering a fun activity or game. Like Greteman Group’s Holiday ’08 Web site. This flash site allows you to choose a naughty or nice coupon. Or, if you want, you can create your own (I actually did use this for a friend–pretty spiffy!). Moral of the story: make it fun and give rather than ask.
So get me there by unique branding or by fun activity, both trends are becoming more prevalent. Here’s a few more examples:
Unique Branding:
Apple
Chipotle
Target
United Way
Fun Activity:
Free Rice
Jones Soda (more of a customization-by-the-customer activity)
If I find more, I’ll add them too. Or, if you know of some, let me know!
